the Veterans Independence Program (VIP), funded by Veteran Affairs Canada (VAC) assists eligible veteran, surviving family, and caregivers to remain in their homes and communities, and to live independently by contributing financial aid towards services which support and promote independence and health.
who is eligible for VIP?
you may qualify for VIP services if you are:
a Canadian veteran with qualifying service
a surviving spouse or primary caregiver of a veteran
Canadian Forces (CF) members.
eligibility is determined by Veterans Affairs Canada based on your service record and health needs. if you have a Medavie Veterans card with a “K” number, you may be automatically eligible for certain services, including monthly foot care.
what services does VIP cover?
better homecare provides the following services under VIP:
housekeeping & home cleaning
meal preparation
personal care assistance (bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, ambulation)
nursing and health support
transportation to medical & community appointments
respite care for family caregivers
these services are designed to support veterans’ independence, enhance their quality of life, and help delay long-term care placement.
foot care coverage – what’s included?
better homecare follows Veterans Affairs Canada guidelines to ensure foot care is provided safely and appropriately.
covered under VIP:
basic foot hygiene
nail trimming
non-medical foot care provided by qualified foot care nurses or personal care workers (if eligible)
not covered under VIP:
medical foot care (e.g., wound care, infection treatment, or procedures requiring a nurse or doctor)
